I’m writing you from my new home in the ‘burbs. 😱
Honestly, I never thought I would be one to say that I actually wanted to live in the suburbs, but one of the beautiful things in life is that we get to change, evolve, and grow.

Many of you know that in early 2024, I moved from my home in New York City, to Los Angeles. My first attempt to “slow down” meant leaving one big city and heading to another.
I love Los Angeles. It has brought me so many amazing experiences, people, and new perspectives. But over the last 6-months or so, it has become clear that Los Angeles probably wasn’t the forever spot.
And over the last two months, my partner and I found ourselves craving something that felt more peaceful and relaxed. We decided to move a few hours outside of the city, and within moments of arriving to our new, quiet existence, I felt my body relax into a state I hadn’t felt in years (or maybe, ever?).
It brings me back to how I used to “love” the chaos of being in a big city.
When I moved into New York City in 2018, I felt alive with the buzz of the big apple. I felt that it energized my soul and drove me to work harder, walk faster, and to assume that any coffee I order is in my hand within seconds (IYKYK).
But during this time, I was also heavily reliant on alcohol.
I relied on alcohol to de-stress, to socialize, to unwind, to keep me going. I also used it to cope with the fact that I was so overwhelmed every single day. My patience thinned to a zero, my nervous system was in a constant strain, and my anxiety spiked higher than ever.
Alcohol helped me cope. It helped me tolerate this chaotic environment. It convinced me that this was what I wanted.
When I had the epiphany that it was time to leave NYC, I was walking to my office one morning with noise cancelling headphones, completely unable to handle all the sounds and the stress. A voice in my head said:
You’re choosing this.
I was choosing to live in this chaotic environment. It was a powerful moment when I realized I didn’t have to stay in New York City. I could choose something different. I could choose more calm. I could choose more peace. The next thought:
Maybe I should move to LA.
And the pieces all fell into place and within a few months, I had uprooted my lifelong east-coast existence and moved west. Was it scary? Sure. Was it worth it? 100%.
And now, this new adventure into a peaceful existence is scary, too. But, I am ready. My body and mind feel good. And I feel ready to get to the next level with you, too, dear reader.
One of my favorite quotes:
“If you don’t like where you are, move. You are not a tree.” — Jim Rohn
You are not rooted anywhere. You are not stuck in any situation. You only think you are. Whether its a job, a relationship, a home, a city, a hobby, a commitment, or literally anything else. You can say no thanks and move on to the next thing.
Life is all about having experiences, taking risks, trying new things, and being open to change.
I think I needed to have the ‘big city’ experiences, to be able to appreciate a slower, more calm way of life. I am grateful to have had these experiences. And I am grateful to be able to realize when something is not working, and to have the ability to try something new.
